Dirler-Cadé, Muscat Alsace Grand Cru Saering AOC 2015
The Saering area has been planted with vines since at least the 13th century. The 2015 vintage, a blend of mainly Muscat Ottonel, Muscat d’Alsace and Pinot Blanc, is a fantastic expression of this unique terroir. The wine radiates luminous aromas of grape, peach and exotic fruits, laced with intriguing spicy notes. A full-bodied, very dry and mineral white wine, structured by bright acidity. Organic wine. 13%. Enjoy now or keep in your wine fridge – it has significant aging potential up to around 2030.
Ratings: Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 91/100, Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2018 16,5/20 and two stars for Domaine Dirler-Cadé
Serving suggestions: Serve cool but not too cold, at 10-13°C, as an aperitif wine, or with shellfish; try also spicy dishes, e.g. Thai (avoid coconut though) or northern Indian cuisines.
Established in 1871, the winery has been managed by the same family for five generations. Almost half of Dirler-Cadé’s 18 hectares of vineyards, all cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics, are classified as Grand Cru. Their range of classic Alsace dry white wines is highly reputed, in the first place from Riesling and Muscat, but also from Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, and Sylvaner.
We have included two different (and both excellent) vintages of the Muscat Grand Cru Saering, one of the Domaine’s top wines, in our wine list.
