Dirler-Cadé, Riesling Alsace AOC 2016
A dry Riesling, made with grapes harvested from plots close to the outstanding Spiegel Grand Cru vineyards. It shows a lively, bright character, with delicious apple and white pear notes and a mineral backbone. Organic wine. 13%. Drink 2018-26.
Serving suggestions: Goes very well with oysters or other seafood thanks to its pronounced minerality, but works equally well as an aperitif wine. Not too spicy Asian food (Cantonese-style seafood) is also an interesting option.
Ratings: Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2018 14.5/20 and two stars for Domaine Dirler-Cadé
Established in 1871, the winery has been managed by the same family for five generations. Almost half of Dirler-Cadé’s 18 hectares of vineyards, all cultivated according to the principles of biodynamics, are classified as Grand Cru. Their range of classic Alsace dry white wines is highly reputed, in the first place from Riesling and Muscat, but also from Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, and Sylvaner.
This 2016 Riesling, while not a Grand Cru, is a great addition to our wine list.
