Gallego Zapatero, Yotuel Finca Valdepalacios Ribera del Duero DO 2010
Only around 1,000 bottles of this exceptional wine were made from 75 years old Tempranillo vines. Powerful, characterful black cherry and ripe, almost cooked plum fruit, with heady spice and dried herbs notes, it is all admirably held together by fresh acidity and silky tannins delivering balance and structure. Intense yet elegant, with a full body and a long finish. 14%. Drink now to 2022.
Robert Parker Wine Advocate 93+/100; Tim Atkin 92/100
Serving suggestions: Roasted lamb, couscous, vegetable stews, and of course tapas. This is a wine that can withstand spices and will go well with Northern Indian dishes and spicy Thai red or yellow curries.
Bodegas y Viñedos Gallego Zapatero
The small Bodega Gallego Zapatero was established in 2005 in the heart of the Ribera del Duero appellation in north-central Spain. Their 9 hectares of vineyards are distributed over several parcels. To demonstrate the full breadth of Ribera terroirs, in addition to blended estate wines, they also focus increasingly on single-vineyard wines.
Here we present their flagship wine, the Yotuel Roble, in the 2015 vintage, as well as the more concentrated, old-vines Yotuel Selección 2014, and finally the single vineyard Yotuel Finca Valdepalacios 2010.
