Gallego Zapatero, Yotuel Roble Ribera del Duero DO 2015
Racy Tempranillo of brilliant ruby color from the Ribera del Duero. Dense cherry and plum aromas are finely laced with well-calibrated notes of tobacco, herbs and dry spices. It has fine tannins and a velvety mouthfeel, maturation for almost a year in oak barrels contributing to its roundness and balance. 14%. Drink now to 2021.
Ratings: Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 89/10; Penin Guide to Spanish Wines 2019, 87/100
Serving suggestions: Great with roasted meats, mushroom risotto, couscous or vegetable stews, and it is of course a natural with tapas.
Bodegas y Viñedos Gallego Zapatero
The small Bodega Gallego Zapatero was established in 2005 in the heart of the Ribera del Duero appellation in north-central Spain. Their 9 hectares of vineyards are distributed over several parcels. To demonstrate the full breadth of Ribera terroirs, in addition to blended estate wines, they also focus increasingly on single-vineyard wines.
Here we present their flagship wine, the Yotuel Roble, in the 2015 vintage, as well as the more concentrated, old-vines Yotuel Selección 2014, and finally the single vineyard Yotuel Finca Valdepalacios 2010.
