Malmont ‘Beauxgrains’ Séguret Côtes du Rhône Villages AOC Rouge 2015

Blackberries, peppery spices and dark chocolate. Intense and structured. Cantonese or northern Chinese (duck).

The ‘Beauxgrains’ (beautiful berries) is a selection of the best grapes of the year and production is limited to 500 bottles. A blend of Syrah (63%) and Grenache, a small part of the Grenache grapes has been harvested at higher ripeness level, adding depth of flavour and body. The intensity of its aromas of blackberries, dried blueberries, peppery spices and dark chocolate is kept in check by refreshing acidity and pronounced yet very finely structured tannins, resulting in overall balance and elegance.

The young Swiss winemaker of Domaine Malmont devotes particular attention to detail in his methodical approach to vineyard management and wine-making, privileging freshness and expression in his wines over power. His 4 hectares of vines on steep terraces on the Malmont mountain are located at an altitude between 300 and 360m, ensuring freshness in the wine. While not certified organic, the same meticulous approach is devoted to maximize environmental sustainability.

Serving suggestions: Roasted or stewed beef, roasted leg of lamb, hard cheese; baked pasta dishes (vegetarian or not); Cantonese and northern Chinese (duck).
