With the typical rather light ruby colour of the Nerello grape, the Mofete Etna Rosso 2015 is made from younger vines on the slopes of the Mount Etna volcano (Nerello Mascalese 80% and 20% Cappuccio). It is distinctly spicy, with aromas of fresh wild herbs and rose flowers. There is a hint of volcanic ash. Juicy, balanced and very elegant. Organic wine.
Serving suggestions: Despite the light colour, this is an intense wine and requires strong flavours, ideally with some umami component. Mediterranean vegetable or fish dishes, pastas and hard cheeses all work very well.
The Costanzo family has restored an old palmento, the traditional Sicilian multi-level cellar, on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. Their vineyards are located between 600 and 800m and include an exceptional parcel with pre-phylloxera vines well over 100 years old. Viticulture is organic and winemaking within the palmento artisanal traditions. Two lines are produced, the classic Mofete and the fabulous Sei expressing in their depth and elegance all the unique character of Etna wines.
