Penet-Chardonnet Champagne Prestige Grande Réserve Grand Cru 2008

Complex, powerful Grand Cru champagne. Citrus, flowers and honey, precise and clean, full-bodied yet silky, very long finish. Celebration wine. Robert Parker 93/100; Jancis Robinson 17.5/20

A single-village blend (70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay) made from a selection of Maison Penet’s best Grand Cru parcels in Verzy, based on the exceptional 2008 vintage. This complex and powerful champagne was bottled in 2009 with a low dosage under 6g/l. Dark gold with very fine beads. The lively nose displays interlaced aromas of citrus, flowers and honey. On the palate the wine is very precise and clean, full-bodied yet silky, and leaves a gorgeous hint of green apples and a very long mineral finish, speaking eloquently of the Verzy terroir. The disgorgement date is mentioned on the back label of the individually numbered bottles (under 5,000 bottles produced with a low dosage under 6g/l).

Distinctive champagne producer La Maison Penet makes wine under the Alexandre Penet and Penet-Chardonnet Grand Cru brands. With six hectares of Grand Cru vines in Verzy and Verzenay, Montagne de Reims, Penet-Chardonnet has received important critical acclaim, especially for its vintage cuvées and single-parcel bottlings.

Serving suggestions: A celebration wine for special occasions, or a great accompaniment to fine, delicately seasoned food – artichokes, truffles, white fish or shellfish.
