An outstanding Merlot from southern Switzerland in the Pomerol style. Intense red ruby in color, it opens with black fruit – plums, blackberry and blackcurrant – in harmony with a woody character from its 12 to 18 months aging in new barriques, then develops sweet spice and pipe tobacco notes. Austere and noble on the palate, full bodied and mouthcoating, structured yet elegant tannins.
Serving suggestions: A great wine requiring great food: it will be ideal with roasted beef ribs or tenderloin, aged hard cheeses and porcini mushrooms.
Ratings: Robert Parker 92/100; Decanter 94/100 Silver Medal, Grand Prix du Vin Suisse 2017
The family-owned house of Tamborini was established in 1911 and is a pioneer of single village and vineyard crus in Ticino (southern Switzerland), as well as the owner of the Vallombrosa vineyard, originally planted in 1908 by local statesman Giovanni Rossi, who introduced Merlot to Ticino in those same years. Now in the third generation, Tamborini balance tradition and modernity in their wide range of wines.
